Dr. Koyfman is an ocular-disease residency-trained optometrist with a passion for helping patients understand their eyes and take an active role in their eye health.
At Dr. Eyefit, an eye examination is more than checking your vision or updating your glasses prescription. Vlad believes that patients should understand what is happening with their eyes, why it matters, and how their eye health can be protected for the future.
Vlad brings a strong background in science, clinical care, and education to every examination.
A Foundation in Science
Vlad graduated from Penn. State University in 2009 with degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics. His love of science and problem-solving led him to pursue a master's degree in Drug Discovery and Design, where he graduated at the top of his class with distinction.
Vlad later earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from Inter American University of Puerto Rico, School of Optometry, graduating as valedictorian in 2016.
A Passion for Clinical Education
During optometry school, Vlad dedicated significant time to helping his classmates and other students succeed. He worked as an education tutor and clincal assistant, helping students develop both their academic knowledge and practical clinical skills.
In 2015, Vlad spent six months as an intern at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, where he gained experienced, evaluated, and managed a wide variety of complex and uncommon eye conditions.
Residency-Trained in Ocular Disease
After optomtery school, Vlad continued practicing in private practice while completing a one-year residency in Ocular Disease at Cedar Springs Eye Clinic in Dallas, Texas.
During his residency, he developed extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of a broad range of ocular conditions, including:
Glaucoma at various stages and presentations
Diabetic eye disease
Cataract care before and after surgery
Refractive surgery co-management
Anterior segment disease
Dry eye and ocular surface disease
A wide variety of intraocular and periocular conditions
From Teaching Students to Teaching Patients
After completing his residency, Vlad remained in Dallas, where he met his wife and continued his involvement in clincal education.
He had the opportunity to serve as a clinical educator and clincal attending at Cedar Springs Eye Clinic, working with optometry students from the University of Houston and University of the Incarnate Word to help them develop their real-world clinical skills.
Teaching has remained one of Vlad's favorite parts of optometry.
Today, that same passion for education is at the heart of Dr. EyeFit.
More Than an Eye Exam
Vlad believes that patients shouldn't simply be told that their eyes are healthy-or that something is wrong.
The patient should understand why.
Whether he's explaining an Optomap retinal image, discussing an OCT, examining the ocular surface, or talking through a diagnosis and treatment plan, Vlad takes the time to explain what he's seeing and why it matters.
His goal is simple:
To help every patient leave the examination knowing more about their eyes than when they walked in.
Because better eye health starts with a better understanding of your eyes.
